Your spinal cord is the system your body uses to pass information from your brain to every other part of your body. If a vertebra in your spine is misaligned, it may be putting pressure on a nerve. Even a small amount of pressure can disrupt the information traveling over that nerve.

Evaluation

After taking your health history into account, your chiropractor will perform a physical examination. Your chiropractor may feel your spine, joints, and examine your range of motion.

Assessment

A chiropractic exam will be thorough and may include X-rays, orthopedic tests, and neurological tests.

Icon Set Spine

Spinal Exam

To determine what parts of your spine would require chiropractic treatment, your chiropractor will likely use a palpation technique to find what areas of your spine's mobility are restricted.

Icon Set X-Ray

X-Rays

Many healthcare providers employ the use of x-rays for diagnostic purposes, including chiropractors. They are useful in helping identify the source of a problem, its potential severity, and potentially guiding the course of treatment.

Your First Visit at Kalkstein Family Chiropractic

After contacting one of four convenient locations, a friendly staff member will reach out to set up your first appointment as well answer any questions you may have.

The purpose of your initial consult and exam is for the doctor to gather as much information as possible in order to make the most accurate recommendation in your case. After getting a thorough history of your problem – The doctor will exam your posture, range of motion, and perform any necessary orthopedic tests in order to diagnose your problem. The main focus of your initial visit is for the Doctor to examine the muscles and joints of your spine which could be at the root cause of your problem. The doctor will also take x-rays, if necessary, in your case. Once your initial exam is complete you will receive your first chiropractic adjustment. Your initial visit, including paperwork, will last approximately 45 minutes.

If the spine becomes misaligned, a disc can become bulged or herniated. In some cases, it may even rupture. A misalignment is not the only cause for this problem. Age can cause the disc to become weak and dehydrated.

If you are struggling with back or neck pain, chiropractic care may be the best treatment option for you. Chiropractic is one of the least invasive and safest options for conditions of the spine and discs.
